The 7 days Rwanda Uganda gorilla safari is an arrangement of its own as it opens an opportunity to track gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda, encountering rich game of Queen Elizabeth National Park including the tree climbing lions of ishasha , leopard, elephants, buffalo, antelope family species and a range of birds, the rewarding boat cruise on Kazinga channel, Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura and the encounter of the Dian Fossey grave or Golden monkey tracking plus the Iby’wachu cultural village of the Banyarwanda which makes this safari a comprehensive one and worth undertaking.

Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 2: Do gorilla tracking

Day 3: Track golden monkeys or Hike Dian Fossey center & cross to Uganda.

Day 4: Do gorilla tracking in Bwindi.

Day 5: Drive to Queen Elizabeth via Ishasha & do boat cruise.

Day 6: Do a morning game drive & an afternoon chimp trek in Kyambura gorge.

7 Days Uganda Rwanda Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive From Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.

After breakfast, embark on the drive to Volcanoes National Park amidst the amazing scenery en-route. It is 116 km journey taking over 3 hours.

Arrive early enough for lunch and relax a while. In the evening spend some time at Iby’wachu village to enjoy the Banyarwanda cultural performances.

Accommodation: Muhabura Hotel (Budget/basic), La Palme Lodge (Midrange/standard) or Mountain Gorilla View Hotel (Luxury/upmarket).

Day 2: Do Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, you will assemble at the park headquarters at Kinigi to have a close to one hour briefing from preferably the park warden or his representative about the gorilla trekking activity that you are trying to undertake.

The briefing commences at 08:00am and the gorilla families to track will also be allocated during this session after which you will embark on the search for Mountain gorillas in the lush of Volcanoes National Park, an activity that can take 2 – 8 hours.

You have one hour to interact with gorillas, take photos and ask any relevant question from the tour guide before returning to the lodge for relaxation. You can take a nature walk to encounter the caves in the evening.

Accommodation: Spend an overnight at your previous lodge.

Day 3: Track Golden Monkeys or Hike Dian Fossey Center & Cross to Uganda.

You will gather at Kinigi park headquarters to track the golden Monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park. Alternatively, you can opt for a hike to the Karisoke research center where you will visit the graves of Dian Fossey and her intimate silverback Digit.

Return to the lodge for lunch after which you will transfer to Uganda – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Ruhija) over 5 hours’ drive covering a distance of 134km.

Accommodation: Ruhija Gorilla safari lodge (Luxury/upmarket) or Gorilla Mist Camp (midrange/standard) or Ruhija Community Rest Camp (Budget/basic).

Day 4: Do Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi.

After an early breakfast, gather at the UWA park headquarters at Ruhija to be briefed about the conduct of gorilla tracking activity.

This starts at 08:00am after which you will embark on a search for gorillas in the mist of Bwindi. The trekking experience can take 2 – 8 hours depending on gorilla movements.

The trek is quite thrilling as it opens you to challenging hikes of valleys and hills, swamps and rocks, dense thickets of Bwindi – remember it is an impenetrable forest and the mist that cover this ancient forest.

Other wildlife like; wild elephants, bush pigs; birds among other natural offers accompany you in the quest of the endangered world mountain gorillas.

Carry with you packed lunch since the activity could be longer. You have one hour to interact with gorillas, ask questions to the tour guide and taking photos after which you will retire at your lodge to recap the memories of this day’s great experience.

Accommodation: You will spend a night at your previous lodge.

Day 5: Drive to Queen Elizabeth via Ishasha & Do Boat Cruise.

Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park after breakfast via Ishasha sector to encounter tree climbing lions.

Proceed to Mweya to catch up with boat cruise on Kazinga channel at 03:00pm to spot game drinking on the channel side, aquatic dwellings and abundant bird life.

The journey is 277km over 5 hours’ drive from the eastern sector of Bwindi close to Kabale.

Accommodation: Mweya safari lodge (Luxury/upmarket), Enganzi Lodge (Midrange/standard) or Simba Safari Lodge (Budget/basic).

Day 6: Do a Morning Game Drive & an Afternoon Chimp Trek in Kyambura Gorge.

Do an early morning game drive along the Kasenyi tracks to spot elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopard, and antelope species among others.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and simple relaxation before embarking on the drive to Kyambura gorge to catch up with Chimpanzee trekking at 02:00pm.

Tracking chimps in Kyambura is quite interesting and challenging due to the rough terrain involved.

Accommodation: You will have diner and overnight at your previous lodge.

Day 7: Transfer Back to Kigali or Entebbe.

After breakfast, you can opt to transfer back to Kigali or continue to Kampala – Entebbe airport for departure depending on your flight arrangement.
